Working...

The Stanton High school Cross Country season has gotten off to a fast start. Both, boys and girls team members have had a great summer and are ready to get after the season. We have had a little trouble with injuries on the girls team, but that will happen when the expectations of work is high.

After our first to meets the fitness of our boys team is showing. Grant Nordby has posted 3rd place finishes at both Niobrara and Hartington Invites, while Colton Sperl place 5th and 6th respectively at the same meets. All team members set their personal record best miles with in their first mile of the 3.1 mile race. Newcomers Zach Doffin, Patrick Kosmacek are also coming along very well with Zach earning 15th place at the Hartington Invite. Audry Novotny has been battling an injury in this early season but was able to gut out an impressive win at the Niobrara Invite. She was not able to run at Hartington.

We also have a trio of promising Middle School athletes. Ben Novotny, Becca Unger, and Caylan Hirschman. Ben and Becca both posted second place finishes at the Madison Jr. High invite which took place on Friday, September the 4th. Ben ran fast enough to break the previous course record at Madison but was second in the race. Becca ran fast enough to make the top 3 all time on the same course, also getting second in the race.

At Hartington in the Jr. High division Ben would race to another second place finish while Becca would pace the field to win the girls Jr. High division. Caylan continues to improve on a daily basis. He is really still getting his feet wet and learning how to race. It is early in the season but this has certainly been a great start to the 2009 season.
